This is Jo Russell
Jo started learning how the world of radio worked with her first job at York Hospital Radio. Her first professional position in radio was at Stray FM in Harrogate before moving to overnights at Minster FM in York. Demonstrating her dedication to radio, Jo worked the overnight shifts as well as holding down a full time job in insurance. A completely sleep-deprived Jo was hailed as the ‘hardest worker alive’..... by her Mum.
After a year in York, Jo got a job as the Breakfast Show presenter at Ram FM in Derby. It was here that she, and her on-air partner in crime Twiggy, cemented her position as one of radios rising stars.where she stayed for 3 years before being promoted within the radio group to breakfast at Trent FM. Jo and Twiggy spent 10 years at the helm of Trent FM’s breakfast show winning many awards and fans in the process.
Jo was asked to join Absolute Radio in October 2008 where she presented 3 early breakfast shows and 2 weekend mid-morning shows, until 2010, when she joined BRMB (now Free Radio). As of October 2017, Jo and her co-host Sparky are the new presenters at breakfast on market leading East Midlands regional station GEM 106.
Throughout her career, Jo has been nominated for an amazing 27 awards and has won 17 of those, including an impressive four Sony Awards.
Sony judges said 'An industry benchmark for a presentation duo who own their community, Jo & Twiggy are blessed with natural charm and wit and their on air partnership reeks of natural authenticity. Their listeners and contributors sound more like stakeholders in the show - indeed the judges were so impressed by the sense of local pride that most are now thinking of moving to Nottingham!'
She was a finalist in the Women of Achievement Awards 1999 and is the current holder of Best Breakfast Show in Europe (European Radio Awards).
Jo has also been privileged to be a judge on several occasions for The Hospital Radio Awards and The Sony Radio Awards.

In 2014 Jo was thrilled to be award a Lifetime Achievement Award for local and regional radio by The Radio Academy.
